Argumentative – Should torture be used to protect innocent lives?

One bad life lost is a good reason to save thousands of innocent lives.

Extreme measures should be taken to protect us from extreme dangers (terrorism).

The only way to get information on imminent danger.

Counter arguments:

Torture is inhumane.

People being tortured might be innocent.

The reliability of the information is questionable.

The most scariest problems facing governments today are terrorism

Transformation

As I sit on the top of the food chain, I can smell the food wandering beneath unaware of my whereabouts for I am a predator. Between my hooked head and hooked feet I search for prey who cannot hide from I as I have the sharpest eye of the wood. As I sit in my nest I feel as I am being watched. Someone or something that is greater than me out there, but i see nothing. I try to calm myself but I still have the sense of being watched and I keep hearing noises of something flying through the wind. Its almost like I am not a one of a kind, that there are lots of other creatures that are exactly like me out there in the wilderness, the noises stop and the sense of being watched by something has gone away.

Night falls, this is the time to strike my prey as I am like a ghost; everything silent and calm but for some cicadas communicating in the distance. I ready myself for flight until I hear something blowing in the wind in the distance. For the first time in my life I am doubting myself, I thought I was the superior being in this wood but now something looks to be contending me for my crown. I stop and listen carefully to which direction this noise came from. I see a shadow through the light so I start flying east to where the sun sets, I am vulnerable from behind so I check back wondering were this creature is.

I head back to nest and realise I am missing something. I check my feathers and under the nest and yet nothing is there. Without warning, I am knocked off of my perch and plummet towards the ground. Still dazed, I get myself together but its too late; I hit the ground with tremendous force and I fall into a trance of unconsciousness.

This is Your Online Domain

Hello and welcome to your personal online journal.

Edutronic has been created to enhance and enrich your learning at the London Nautical School. Its purpose is to provide you with an audience for your work (or work-in-progress) and you have the choice (by altering the ‘visibility’ of your posts) of whether your work on here is visible to the world, or only to your teacher.

Anything you post here in the public domain represents you and thus it’s important that you take care with that decision, but don’t be afraid to publish your work – as the feedback you may get from people at home, your peers and people from around the internet is only likely to enhance it.

Remember you can always access your class blog and all manner of resources through the Edutronic main website – and by all means check out the sites of your peers to see what they’re getting up to as well.

If you have any questions for your teacher, an excellent way to get an answer is to create a new private post on this journal. Your teachers are am notified of any new posts and will reply swiftly to any queries.

Make the most of, and enjoy this new freedom in your English learning!
